Veltkamp Livestock Co.

Custom Cattle Feeding & Development Center

Veltkamp Livestock Co., run by Phil and Amy Veltkamp, is located 2 miles SW of Manhattan, Montana. The feedlot has a capacity of 4500 head. Our pen sizes vary from 50 head capacity to 250 head.

We are a family operated facility dedicated to fully serving the unique needs of cattlemen. We enjoy our work and getting to know the customers we serve. Our top priority is to manage your cattle the way you want it done. With this in mind, it is important to us to work with each owner individually to determine which program is right for you.

Nutrition and Animal Health

We feed a complete mixed ration with a tremendous mineral program. We believe most health problems can be eliminated with proper nutrition. This includes a good mineral program and balanced rations.

All of our rations are carefully designed by qualified animal nutritionists, and bunk samples are taken periodically to ensure accuracy. Our bunk management system ensures that each pen of cattle receives the correct amount of feed according to their needs.

Our motto is: "Treat each animal as if it were our own." We use a lot of bedding. Pens are ridden daily. Veterinary medicines and vaccines are charged to the customer. Veltkamp Livestock does not charge chute charges or labor for doctoring cattle. Since we started feeding cattle, we have had less than 1/2% death loss.

Bull Development

  • Bulls are put on test, ADG is calculated
  • Fertility tested
  • Ultrasounded
  • Marketing Assistance
  • Feed ration with moderate energy to promote a structurally sound bull.

Heifer Development

  • Fed for future sale or to be returned to own herd.
  • Synchronization, heat detection, artificial insemination
  • By paying attention to the details, we are able to have tremendous conception rates.

Let us winter your heifers for you. We will feed them a ration especially designed to put just enough gain on them so they breed up really well. Feeding a mixed ration, like we do, makes synchronizing them easy. Sell them as bred heifers (we can help market them) or return them to your own herd.

    Backgrounding and Fats

Add value to your calves by putting them on feed for 45 to 60 days. This will allow time for the calves to be weaned, bunk trained, boostered on their vaccinations, and on a balanced ration so the calves can make the transition to a big feed yard with less stress. Backgrounding calves will also even up your herd so you can get a better price for them when you sell.

If you would like to retain ownership on your calves instead of shipping them to a feedlot in the midwest, we will fatten them for you. This would provide you with individual data on your calves to help in your herd decisions. And we will market your fat calves for you.
